What's Happening In Your World
Disneyland is a place where families can go to have fun and exciting vacations. The children get to meet their favorite Disney characters, go on rides, and see the sights. Now Disneyland is under fire, as the second family in the last few weeks has filed a discrimination suit claiming that the Donald Duck character was ignoring their children, who are black, and were playing with the white children instead. After the complaint from the first family, more and more calls came in stating that this had happened to them on their trip as well. Dan Gilleon, the attorney for the first family, states that he has had many people call him about the same issue. This shows him that it is not an isolated incident that only happened to one family. He states that the park, on a whole, is not racist, but it seems that some of the employees are not living up to the company values. Natasia White, the mother of the two children in the second claim stated that the Donald Duck character refused to take photos with her two children and only played with the white children instead. The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland is the other character that is under fire for discrimination. Disneyland representatives have not yet commented on the incidents. They have simply stated that they are taking the time to look into every complaint that has been brought forth thus far. Gilleon stated that, earlier in the week, Disneyland had tried to give the Whites VP passes that were worth $500 in exchange for signing a statement that said no wrongdoing was done on the part of the Magic Kingdom. The first family, the Blacks, are suing Disney for a violation of California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, which carries a penalty of $25,000. They also plan to sue for legal fees, the cost of the trip, damages, and sue for three to five different violations, depending on how many children were involved.
