What's Happening In Your World
Techyville.com Staff Writer Why is it that successful people in positions of power get caught in scandals so often? Kobe Bryant, David Petraeus and Bill Clinton are just three powerful people who have been caught with their pants down (quite literally) and for no good reason. All three of them are married and were at the top of their game at the time of their scandals. According to Dr. Reef Karim from the Control Center in Los Angeles, people in positions of power tend to struggle with feelings of insecurity. Karim works with celebrities, politicians and royalty frequently. According to him, many powerful people are actually driven by their insecurities to become successful. Karim refers to it as the ‘insecurity element’, which is responsible for why people act and dress the way they do. Women who have the insecurity element will dress too sexy for events and men who have it tend to act like idiots in groups. There is also the old-fashioned idea that young, beautiful women are attracted to older, powerful men.  Sometimes, the temptation of being in the limelight, mixed with relationship difficulties at home, can cause men to feel the need to stray on their partners.  It’s no excuse for infidelity, but it’s been happening for thousands of years. Karim also says that people in positions of power also tend to be self-destructive. People have to work hard to get to the top in the first place. After you have made it to the top, the fight changes and some people struggle with that. They then become stressed out by the new levels of power in their lives. Karim says, “It’s a human quality to want to do well… but then when you do well, now what? Maintaining that level of high success is very trying on someone’s brain. For a lot of people playing at this level, you don’t see a nervous breakdown, you see self-destructive activities in other realms of life.”
